Start with the routine you have
Describe the morning you actually have, including days when your hair gets very little attention. Do you leave it to dry, use a diffuser, smooth it with a brush, or style selected sections? Which steps do you enjoy, and which feel like a task? Bring that account to your ROVÉ stylist before choosing a shape. A haircut consultation becomes more specific when the everyday finish is part of the brief. You can still discuss an occasional polished look while being clear about what you expect to do most often.
Separate the haircut decisions
A new look does not have to be one large, indivisible choice. Discuss the overall length, the outline at the ends, the layers, and the hair around the face separately. You may want to change one while keeping the others familiar. Ask your stylist to explain how the proposed elements relate to each other on your own hair. If a reference includes a fringe you do not want, say that directly. Liking the movement in an image does not mean agreeing to every detail of the cut it shows.
Give practical limits a voice
Name the details that matter in daily life: tying your hair back, putting on glasses, tucking it behind your ears, or wearing a part in more than one position. Show your stylist rather than relying on a general request to keep it practical. Point to the shortest length you feel comfortable considering and discuss any areas where fullness is especially important to you. These are useful design preferences. They help turn a broad inspiration into a conversation about the shape you would like to live with between salon visits.
Ask to understand the finish
Use the finishing part of the visit to understand the styling choices behind the look. Ask where a product is placed, what the brush or attachment is doing, and which step makes the biggest difference. If heat is part of your routine, discuss protection and settings: the American Academy of Dermatology advises limiting heat, using low or medium settings, and using a heat-protection product. You do not need to copy an entire salon finish. Choose the steps that make sense for your tools, comfort, and daily habits.
Leave with questions answered
Before leaving, ask how to recognize when the shape is ready for attention again and what you should practice at home. If a detail feels unfamiliar, describe it while you and your stylist can look at it together. Keep a note of the choices you made, especially length and the parts of the finish you want to repeat. At your next visit, bring an honest account of how the cut wore in everyday life. That information gives the next conversation something concrete to build on, whether you keep the shape or explore a change.
Check the cut against your real day
- Show whether you need to tie your hair back for work, exercise, or daily comfort.
- Explain your usual drying method and whether you want to use hot tools.
- Ask which details in the reference depend on styling rather than the cut itself.
- Discuss how the shape will work with your current color and any planned change.
